Works by Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse added to the Villa Samuan Collection.

We are delighted this week to take delivery of three original lithograph drawings by renowned 20th Century artists Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

In the evocative lithograph "Nue de Derrière #3" by Henri Matisse, circa 1949, pictured here, the artist skilfully captures the essence of feminine grace. The title, translating to "Nude from Behind #3," hints at the intimate portrayal awaiting the observer. Matisse's masterful lines delicately delineate a seated female form, her back turned in a subtle dance of contours.

Renowned for his revolutionary contributions to modern art, Matisse's unique ability to perfectly capture linear form breathes life into this original edition signed lithograph. Executed on fine Belgian linen board complimenting the the nuances of the single-line drawing, the piece serves as a testament to Matisse's ability to distill complex beauty into simplicity. The artist's genius unfolds as he captures the elusive elegance of the female form, offering viewers a timeless glimpse into the soul of his artistic vision.

Villa Samuan takes its name from one of Bali's oldest temples

According to local folklore, Villa Samuan was given its name by a Balinese Princess. A friend of the owners she was inspired by one of Bali's oldest temples, the sacred "Pura Samuan Tiga" situated in Bedulu, not far from Ubud.

Translating as the "Temple of the Meeting of the Three", the temple is dedicated to the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and is the picture of a beautiful getaway with two rivers flanking it and lush vegetation adorning it.

Similarly Villa Samuan is a meeting point between three; East and West, locals and visitors, guests and staff. With its blend of traditional eastern and western decor, lush tropical gardens and soothing atmosphere Villa Samuan embodies the very essence of Bali's calm, relaxed tranquility.

We’re pleased to say that we’ve finalised our new range of hand-made soaps, with a signature fragrance that sings of the tranquil beauty of Bali. After trialing dozens of different blends of organic essential oils we’ve finally got it. It’s a transformationally uplifting fragrance that has to be smelled to be believed. With all natural ingredients made by hand in Bali, it’s available to our in-house guests now.

Last weekend at the highly prestigious 2023 World Luxury Hotel Awards in Athens, Bali’s Villa Samuan was declared Global Winner in the Private Villa category, also taking out the title “Best Private Villa - Asia.”
